10 tips to relax on a holiday

In today’s fast-paced world, when technology has permeated every area of our lives, one would think that vacations would provide a welcome break from the incessant hustle and bustle. However, it appears that the skill of relaxing is becoming increasingly rare in our current culture.

People often find themselves more tired by the end of their vacations instead of feeling relaxed, due to excessive planning and itinerary-filled days. Some people end up working even on vacations, which may affect their relationship with their loved ones.

So, how do you relax on vacations? How can you make sure you are having a truly relaxing and stress-free vacation? Don’t worry we’ve got your back. Here are 10 tips to help you relax on a vacation.

  1. Keep it Simple:

While on vacation, try to keep it simple and do not add a lot to your daily itinerary just to fill up the void. Take time to unwind and spend quality time with yourself, your family, and your friends. Ensure to also take some time off for yourself and engage in activities that you might not get enough time for while working.

  1. Stop Mindless Checking:

More often than not, we end up checking in on our work e-mails and messages even on vacation. We find it extremely difficult to keep our minds off of work and are constantly stressing about the amount of work we’d have to do once we’re back from vacation. Remember, you are on a vacation to rejuvenate yourself and boost your productivity once you are back. This can only work if you allow yourself to let go and unwind during your holidays.

  1. Sign Out from Social Media:

Vacations do not necessarily mean that we do away with our phones. Your phones need not have to be in the way of some much-needed downtime. Sign out from your social media accounts, turn off those notifications, and enjoy being in the present moment. Spend this time on yourself and connect with yourself, your family, and your friends.

  1. Understand How You Relax Best:

Now that you are away from work and social media, identify the things that make you feel relaxed. Indulge in local activities, or find a cozy bookstore or a cafe to spend a little time of your day. This way you might even find new interests and hobbies to take up.

  1. Be Spontaneous:

Be open to spontaneous plans. Planning down everything to the T can take the fun out of your vacations. No one wants to adhere to a strict schedule on vacations. We do enough of that at work. Allow yourself to be flexible and you might come across things and places you did not think you’d enjoy. The fun of being spontaneous is in the surprises and experiences they hold for you.

  1. Go on an Off-The Beaten Track:

Taking a detour every once in a while can be fun. Go to off-beat places that are hidden from the tourists. This way you can get the chance to explore the place and come across some great places that you might have missed otherwise. Again you might be surprised by what you come across. For eg – a quiet and cozy restaurant that you might have missed otherwise.

  1. Connect with the Locals:

Trust us when we say you’ll learn a lot more from the locals than you would from your tourist guide. Try to connect with the locals and learn more about their life, culture, delicacies, dialects, and much more. You’d truly experience a lifestyle from their eyes and make your vacation all the more memorable.

  1. Treat Yourself:

Vacations are for you to pamper yourselves and let go. Do not worry about the money (or save up a little before going on a vacation) and get yourself whatever you want. Experience everything you’ve wanted to. From planning a day on a yacht to maybe just trying out a new dessert. Treat yourself and let go of your worries.

  1. Make time for your Daily Rituals:

When we are on vacation, our daily rituals often go haywire. Make sure to make time for your daily rituals during vacation such as Journaling, exercising, meditation, reading, etc. This will ensure that you do not fall out of habit and also help you destress.

  1. Practice a Pre-bed Ritual:

Create or practice a bedtime routine to help you relax and unwind completely. Proper sleep is an essential part of relaxation. Do not sacrifice your sleep as you will feel fresh the next day with proper sleep. That way you can do more the next day and feel energized all day long. Engage in activities that soothe your mind, body, and soul. For eg: reading a book, coloring, skin care, long showers, soothing music or scents, etc.

Now, that you know how to relax on your vacations go out and practice them. Here are a few activities we think you can indulge in for a relaxing holiday:

  • Spend a day at the beach
  • Take a walk in the park
  • Try adventure sports
  • Read a book
  • Take a blank Journal and fill it with your family
  • Listen to music/ take a bubble bath

We hope you will truly take this opportunity to relax and destress on your holidays. Once again, make sure to utilize this time to spend more quality time with your family. Take a complete break from work and enjoy yourselves. Have a great holiday!
